Course Overview
This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing.
Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team. To achieve this qualification, you must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Duration and Study Load
40 weeks full-time / 65 weeks part-time.
- The course will be delivered over 40 weeks including three weeks’ holidays.
- Classwork is delivered over a 37-week block.
- Students will undertake 120 hours of work placement during the period of 40 weeks.

- The classes will be delivered at 131 Johnston Street, Fitzroy.
Entry Requirements
- There are no specific entry requirements for CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability.
- Prior to enrolling in this course, students must complete Victorian International Academy’s Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment and pre-training review interview so we can assess the suitability of this course to meet your needs.
- For a successful enrolment students must be 18 years old.
Course Features
- As a registered NDIS provider (through VIA Care) additional work placement and career opportunities are available within the community services sector.
Work Placement
- You are required to complete a compulsory 120 hours work placement.
- Victorian International Academy has a range of partners we work with to coordinate your work placement, who can often offer our students employment following their work placement.
- Prior to commencing your compulsory work placement, you will be required to provide VIA with a current National Police Check (obtained no more than six months previously).
- Police Checks take a minimum of 10 business days to be processed and cost approximately $50, VIA can offer you a reduced fee of $18.40 as a volunteer doing work placement.
Recognition of Prior Learning
RPL
- We have a simple but methodical RPL process, which is outlined in detail in the Policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Applicants can apply for recognition of prior learning of their existing skills and knowledge that are relevant to the units of competency within the program.
- These skills and knowledge may have been obtained through workplace training or experience and may reduce the number of units required to be completed during the program. Students are encouraged to notify us of their interest or intention to apply for RPL prior to their enrolment.
Credit Transfer
- Credit transfer applies to situations where learners have completed unit(s) at another provider identical to those in which they plan to enrol. Credit will be granted in accordance with the Credit Transfer procedure.
- To apply for credit transfer learners must complete the credit transfer application form and attach copies of verified documents to support the application.
- A reduction in tuition fees will be applied if Credit Transfer is granted. A Credit transfer will also result in a reduction in the duration of the course.

Enrolment and selection process
- Prior to enrolling a potential learner, a VIA enrolment officer will conduct a Pre-Training Review interview, which aims to identify the learner’s training needs and the suitability of this course to meet their needs, through questions on previous education or training, the relevance of the course to the learner’s desired job outcome, relevant experience.
- The interview also aims to identify any support the learner may need to successfully undertake the course and possible RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) or Credit Transfer opportunities which may reduce the amount of training required.
- Through the PreTraining Review interview, the learner will demonstrate that they have the necessary skills and personal attributes to successfully undertake the course and that the course selected is the most suitable to meet their needs.
- Selection for enrolment in our courses will be approved for applicants who meet the qualification entry requirements. In line with government policy, students with intellectual and physical disabilities, who meet the entry requirements are encouraged to participate in training.
