Full job description

Principal Audit Consultant, Department of Justice and Attorney-General - support the Director, IA, in delivering contemporary internal audit outcomes.

Permanent full-time Salary per year

$115,314 - $123,480

As Principal Audit Consultant your key responsibilities will include:

• Contributing to the development and delivery of strategic and annual audit plans for the Department.

• Conducting and/or leading audit teams in audits as detailed in the Annual Internal Audit Plan to effectively address governance, corporate management, risk management and control processes.

• Conducting complex strategic and operational audits including financial compliance audits, special investigations or reviews for the Director-General as well as performance audits to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of systems and the economic use of resources.

• Maintaining professional standards including those laid down by the Institute of Internal Auditors.

• Determining whether individual controls are adequate and functioning effectively and economically.

• Providing advice to senior management on appropriate systems of control and other accounting and operational matters in a consultative capacity.

• Actively pursuing an effective team environment which achieves the Unit’s and the Department’s goals.

• Assisting in the development of audit staff through input into the conduct and execution of audits.  

In this role, intrastate travel is required and you must possess a driver’s licence.   Highly desirable knowledge and skills include:

• Highly developed audit and project management skills, in accordance with professional auditing standards.

• Demonstrated ability to analyse complex and unstructured problems, assess their materiality and significance and to advise management on how to enhance operations.

• Sound knowledge of or ability to rapidly acquire sound knowledge of legislation and standards.
