The Role
Working within the Australian Army Research Centre's (AARC) Research Group, the APS5 Academic Research Officer plays an essential role in supporting the delivery of research projects that are a key deliverable of the AARC. The position supports the management of contracts under the Army Research Scheme (ARS), engages with researchers to ensure that deliverables are met, negotiates variations to research scope, direction and timelines, and provides a point of contact for engagement with Army subject matter experts. Under broad direction, the position also engages with internal and external stakeholders across Defence, academia and industry to help shape, build and enhance the AARC's capacity to further Army land power thinking.

The AARC is dedicated to improving the Army’s understanding of the profession of arms. Its purpose is to promote the contribution of the land force to joint operations in peace and war. The AARC conducts applied research on the employment and modernisation of Army with particular reference to Australia’s circumstances and interests. It raises the level of professional debate on war and its challenges within the Army, the nation and international audiences. The AARC enhances the professionalism, leadership and ethical awareness of Australian soldiers and officers.

The candidate has the capacity to perform and achieve complex program management, research and analysis work within an integrated workforce. The candidate has a sound knowledge of applicable government compliance frameworks, including for the delivery of research outputs.
