About the Organization:

This leading government agency Provides free and confidential counselling to anyone who has served at least one day in the ADF, and their families. Their work has an impact on a significant area in the social sector, and you can contribute to the difference that they make in this role. This agency has a great team culture and excellent office locations in Hobart or Launceston.

About the role:

The APS6 Counsellor is responsible for helping veterans and their families to resolve problems in a positive way by helping them to clarify issues, explore options, develop strategies, and increase self-awareness. Counselling is usually a short-term treatment for a specific problem.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide high quality clinical services including assessment and referral, evidence based individual, couple and family counselling, and case management to eligible Agency participants.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of Agency group programs as required.
  • Maintain clinical records according to Agency standards, analyse data from client records, and preparing reports as required to assist in evaluating and improving service delivery.
  • Facilitate the delivery of counselling and other programs to veterans, ADF personnel and their families in rural and outer metropolitan areas by:

    o applying quality assurance principles and procedures to ensure the clinical practice, reporting and invoicing activities of outreach counsellors meet contractual requirements

  • Liaise and form partnerships other government departments, organisations and community health and welfare agencies to identified needs of veteran and defence force communities and families.
  • Participate in and contribution to ongoing learning and development activities and maintenance of professional status.
  • Participate in community development and service promotion activities as required.
  • Participate in Agency program evaluation and research activities, contributing to project management activities that implement strategic directions and quality improvement recommendations, and provide feedback for ongoing development of clinical policies and procedures.

MANDATORY

  • Qualifications must be that of a mental health professional.
  • Qualified health professionals must have current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA).
  • Mental health accredited social workers must be registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Preference is for mental health professionals including Clinical Psychologists, Psychologists, Mental Health Occupational Therapists or Mental Health Social Workers.
  • Working with Children (WWC) and/or Vulnerable People Checks/Clearance must be obtained prior to commencing in the position.
  • Extensive experience working with people who present with complex mental health conditions, understanding people living with mental health conditions have experienced trauma in their lives.
  • Expertise in supporting clients impacted by substance abuse, mood, and anxiety disorders (including PTSD).
  • Experience in coordinating and assisting in the management of complex cases
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and proficiency in the use of IT systems including Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in organizing, assessment and case management via telephone.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Current Police Check, or ability to obtain one.
